Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is one of the best examples of a syndrome that is difficult to treat with western medicine, but relatively easy to treat with acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. While IBS is really a diagnosis created for undiagnosable disorders of the bowel, in Chinese medicine the causes, and treatment methods, are clearly understood.
Another difference between the two medicines is that while pharmaceuticals treat the symptoms, and are needed indefinitely, acupuncture and Chinese medicine get at the root of the problem, and bring about a lasting resolution of syndrome.
A significant part of the successful resolution of IBS is a modification of diet. If you have IBS you have most likely made some changes already, but Chinese dietary therapy is unique. There is no one-size-fits-all diet that is good for everyone with IBS. Depending on your unique constitution, different foods will be recommended. Once the IBS has been resolved you can start being more flexible with your diet. For more information please feel free to give me a call.
